Study shows Metroplex has two of top 10 fastest growing American cities

Frisco City Flag 1DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF News) — A new study conducted by WalletHub.com of the fastest growing cities in America shows five Texas cities in the top 10, with two of them in the Metroplex.

Frisco is ranked at No. 1 as the fastest growing city since 2009, with job growth higher than the national average at more than five percent. McKinney came in ranked at No. 8, largely due to the biggest poverty decrease in that time span, according to the study.

The other Texas cities in the top 10 are League City (No. 2), Midland (No. 7), and Bryan (No. 10).

“Texas really cannot be topped,” WalletHub analyst Jill Gonzalez said. “Not only is half of the top 10 made up of Texas cities, but the whole top half of the list — and we looked at over 500 cities — is made up of Texas cities.”

The study focuses on strictly quantitative research, including statistics like job growth, income growth, internal GDP, population growth, and poverty decrease. Gonzalez said other than those stats, the Texas housing market and lack of state income tax attracts both businesses and families to the area.

“We see the housing market continue to boom in Texas. You get a lot of bang for your buck,” Gonzalez said. “You’re paycheck isn’t getting cut in half via rent or via your mortgage. There’s states that just cannot say the same, and maybe never will be able to say the same.”

Other Texas cities in the Top 30 are: Odessa (No. 12), College Station (No. 15), Mission (No. 18), Pearland (No. 19), Austin (No. 26), and Grand Prairie (No. 27).
