Plano Police Solves Mystery of Mailbox Stickers

img_3102PLANO (WBAP & KLIF News) — It turns out, the stickers were much ado about nothing.

Plano Police announced the stickers that have shown up on mailboxes in a particular neighborhood are simply markers left by a newspaper delivery company to mark a new delivery route. There were initial fears by some residents that the stickers may be a sign of criminals targeting their homes.

“There were some unwarranted fears placed in some of the citizens and the belief that they may be targeted by criminals,” officer David Tilley said. “We never suspected that was going to be the case.”

Tilley says they did treat the investigation with a worst-case-scenario mindset, as they do all investigations.

But this case was simply a miscommunication, according to Tilley — one he says the newspaper company feels sorry for.

“He was very apologetic and wanted to make sure we know what it was so we could ease the concerns the community might have,” Tilley said.

He says multiple phone calls came in to Plano Police regarding the stickers, but that he also reminded those callers there was no legitimate threat.

“There was no intent of malice in this,” Tilley said. “It was in an effort of a new delivery person to make sure she got her route properly delivered.”
