Inmate Suicides Drop

AUSTIN (WBAP/KLIF News) – A new screening tool has led to a drop in suicides in Texas jails.

Since December 2015, 14 county jail inmates committed suicide.  That’s a significant drop from 34 the previous year.

Previously, jails asked inmates to self report medical problems or mental health issues.

According to the Texas Tribune, the new screening forms use multiple questions to elicit the same information and gives jailers better instructions on how to handle those situations.
