Texas to Hire More Child Welfare Workers, But There’s a Catch

AUSTIN (WBAP/KLIF News) – Texas lawmakers give child protective services an ultimatum.

An emergency cash infusion of more than $142 million could be rescinded if CPS fails to hit newly required performance goals and reporting requirements.

The money would help the struggling agency hire about 830 new employees.

The legislative budget board said stipulations won’t affect the $12,000 raises granted to the 6,000 current employees.

The board is demanding weekly and bi-monthly reports on the face-to-face contacts, caseload information as well as turnover and retention rates.
