DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF News) — A lawsuit against the University Interscholastic League for allowing a high school transgender wrestler from Euless to compete against girls will go to court today.
A Travis County judge will determine whether or not the suit is valid, after the UIL filed a plea last month asking the court to dismiss the case.
A Coppell-based lawyer says allowing Mack Beggs — who is transitioning from a girl to a boy — to wrestle against girls is a safety risk to other girl wrestlers. Beggs is taking steroids as part of her transition, which is allowed under UIL rules.
The UIL argues the lawsuit lacks standing because nobody was actually injured, and because last season is in the books and next season hasn’t even started yet. The organization also says it followed all rules as laid out by the state’s education code.
