Senator Ted Cruz Says the United States and Europe Should Unite to Fight Terrorism

ADDISON (WBAP/KLIF News) – In the aftermath of the deadly terror attack in Barcelona, Spain, Senator Ted Cruz is calling for the United States and Europe to work more closely together to prevent terrorism.

13 people were killed and 100 injured on Thursday when a driver plowed a van into a crowd of people in Las Ramblas, a busy tourist area.

Cruz said the attack is just the latest example of the need to stand up against hatred.

“These patterns we’ve seen all over Europe in the past typically tied to radical Islamic terrorists. We’ll see how the facts lay out precisely who did it and why,” he said.

Two suspects have been arrested in connection with the attack. The driver of the van is still at large.

ISIS has labeled the attackers as “soldiers of the Islamic state” but the terror group has not explicitly claimed responsibility for attack.

Cruz said he’s encouraged by the Department of Justice’s response to the deadly attack in Charlottesville, Virginia last weekend.

32-year-old Heather Heyer was killed and dozens were injured when the suspect, James Fields Junior, allegedly drove his car into a group of counter protesters at a white supremacist rally in the city.

“We should be united in standing against hatred and standing against bigotry and standing against violence and terrorism. I think that’s something all of us should do,” said Cruz.

President Trump pledged support in the aftermath of the attack.
