California Couple Accused of Torturing Their Kids Had Ties to North Texas

FORT WORTH (WBAP/KLIF News) – A California couple that was arrested for allegedly torturing their 13 children had roots in North Texas.

Online records show, David and Anna Turpin, had once lived in Fort Worth and Rio Vista.

Police arrested the couple after it was discovered that their children had been held captive in a filthy home, some chained to their beds, in Perris, California.

According to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, a 17-year-old girl escaped from the house on Sunday and called 911 from a cell phone she found in the house.

The department said the girl “appeared to be only 10 years old and slightly emaciated.”

Responding officers said the adult victims looked like children due to the emaciation and many were shackled to their beds “in dark and foul-smelling surroundings,” according to a statement from the sheriff’s department.

The victims ranged in age from 2 to 29 years old. They’re being treated at nearby medical centers.

The couple is facing numerous charges of torture and child endangerment and bond has been set at $9 million each.
