Irving Police Investigating Fatal Officer-Involved Shooting Following Burglary Call

IRVING (WBAP/KLIF News) – An Irving Police officers is on paid administrative leave after shooting and killing a burglary suspect.

Authorities said officers were responding to a car burglary on Finley Road near Ridgeview Lane just after 1 a.m. on Monday when the incident occurred.

Officer James McLellan with the Irving Police Department said the suspect jumped in a pickup truck when he saw police and rammed a patrol vehicle and several other cars before the officer shot him.

“He was concerned of being run over and feared for his safety and drew and fired his service weapon….striking the suspect,” he said.

Irving Police and the Dallas County District Attorney’s Office are investigating the shooting.

The suspect died at Parkland Hospital.

His identification has not been released.
