Several North Texas Counties Ban Outdoor Burning Amid High Fire Risk Conditions

DENTON  (WBAP/KLIF News) – Denton County is the latest North Texas region to implement a burn ban.

Forecasters issued a warning that there will be a high fire risk in North Texas all week.

A Denton County judge signed off on the burn ban after recent fires in Denton and Flowermound.

“Last week we had two large grass fires over 200 acres each,” said Emergency Management Officer Eric Glidersleeve.

Both fires started out small yet the dry and gusty conditions fueled the blaze.

Glidersleeve said outdoor burning in Denton County is illegal until the ban is lifted.

“With low humidities and high winds that we’re experiencing. Small fires or accidental fires are growing to large proportions very quickly,” he said.

Tarrant, Johnson and Parker Counties are also under burn bans.
