Dallas Students Compete in Nationwide Competition to Pitch Their Solutions to Community-Based Problems

DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF News) – A group of Dallas high school students competed in a nationwide competition designed to give kids a chance to offer innovative solutions to community-based problems.

Zachary Epps is with the Aspen challenge and said it’s important we listen to what kids are saying.

“It’s vital because they have the answers because things that we’ve done aren’t working to be quite frank,” he said.

Each team is asked to choose a problem they want to tackle, design and implement a solution, engage their communities through outreach and present their project to a panel of judges.

Epps said that its important to invest in our youth, who will eventually become the future leaders of our communities.

“When we think about being creative, having grit and being able to create things in a new way, they are the vehicle that’s going to get us there,” he said.

The ideas were presented Tuesday morning and included ways to mend police-community relations and how to solve the immigration debate.

Three of the 20 teams will advance to Aspen, where they’ll present their ideas to a panel of global judges.
