You Could Be Fined Up To $500 For Wild Parties in Mesquite

MESQUITE (WBAP/KLIF) – The Mesquite City Council amended the City’s Code to provide a stricter enforcement of parties with ten or more attendees that become a nuisance for neighbors. The new ordinance allows police officers to shut down a party if there is evidence of excessive noise, vehicles blocking the street or other actions of disorderly conduct.

City Manager Cliff Keheley said “This is asking our residents to enjoy their parties with respect and responsibility. We do not want to discourage our residents from hosting social events. Instead, we ask that they host parties with consideration and regard of their neighbors.”

The city can cite the property owner or host of the party for violating the ordinance with a Class C Misdemeanor that carries a fine of up to $500. Director of Communications and Marketing Wayne Larson said he hopes the new code puts a stop to out of hand parties before they begin.

“We look forward to providing stronger neighborhood integrity in Mesquite and asking our residents to take on a little more responsibility when it comes to hosting the parties,” says Larson.
