North Tarrant Express 35 W Opens Ahead of Schedule

FORT WORTH (WBAP/KLIF) – The final reconstruction phase of the $1.6 billion North Tarrant Express I-35 W project has concluded and the last TEXpress Lanes are open. A grand opening was held Thursday, two months ahead of schedule.

The full project corridor from the downtown I-30 interchange north to the US 287 interchanfe spans a total of 10.1 miles. Drivers have the option to travel along the NTE TEXpress Lanes on I-35W from downtown Fort Worth to North Tarrant Parkway. The corridor connects to the North Tarrant Express project along I-820 and Airport Freeway, adding an additional 13 miles to the NTE TEXpress Lanes in Northeast Tarrant County.

“We have been honored to partner with the State of Texas and the people of North Texas in helping build out a network of express and manged lanes throughout the region to provide congestion relief and faster commutes,” said Alberto Gonzalez, CEO of NTEMP. “We will continue working with TxDOT and the regional transportation planners to enhance the effectiveness of the new highway system in order to positively impact economic development and quality of life.”

The project broke ground in May, 2014.
