Medical Experts Say Heat Exhaustion is Common in Triple Digit Temperatures

DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF) – Temperatures are expected to reach close to 108 degrees through the weekend across North Texas and doctors are warning of the risk of heat illness.

Heat exhaustion is common for people exposed to extreme heat for long periods of time.

“It can start very mild with headaches, nausea, and vomiting, said Parkland Hospital Physician, Dr. Gil Salazar. “Those are symptoms not to ignore.”

Anyone who exhibits symptoms of heat exhaustion is encouraged to get to shade or indoors as quick as possible.

“Shade can make a big difference,” Dr. Salazar said.

Doctors recommend wearing long shirts and pants if working outside to avoid exposing the skin to the sun. It’s also advised to stay hydrated and limit outdoor activity to only 30 minutes at a time if possible with frequent breaks.
