A 32 Year Dallas Police Veteran Killed in the Line of Duty

DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF News) – Law enforcement officials across the state are mourning the loss of a 32 year veteran of the Dallas Police force. Senior Corporal Earl Jamie Givens with the Dallas Police Department was killed early Saturday morning, while assisting with a funeral procession near I-20 & Bonnie View in Dallas.

According to Dallas Police Chief Renee Hall, Givens was on a motorcycle blocking an entrance ramp to I-20 about 5:30a.m., with his emergency lights on, when he was hit by a Kia Sportage vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed. Givens was taken to Baylor Scott and White Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival. He had served in the motor unit since 2012.

The driver of the Kia Sportage subsequently crashed into a concrete divider and was arrested at the scene for suspicion of drunk driving. He is identified as a black male, age 25.
