Arlington and it’s Citizens Arguing Over Term Limits, Causing Restraining Order and a Special Meeting

ARLINGTON (WBAP/KLIF) – Arlington City Council and a citizens group are battling over term limits

Zack maxwell, the leader of the citizens group got over 11,000 signatures in July to put 6 year term limits on the ballot. That means 3, 2 year terms and counting previous served terms. However, Arlington Mayor Jeff Williams says this will create bigger problems because it will mean 5 council members leaving their seat by 2020.

The city wanted to add their own version of term limits to the ballot, their version,  states having 3 terms but all 3 years each and they could run again.

But, Maxwell said the council rushed the process and didn’t follow procedure. The group then got a Tarrant County judge to file a restraining order against the city so they couldn’t move this forward

The city is holding a meeting Sunday to discuss what happens next. The meeting is at 7pm at City Hall and is open to the public.

The City of Arlington would not comment because they’re in litigation.
