WBAP/KLIF – Dallas Fire-Rescue has appointed Dominique Artis as their new Fire Chief. Artis begins his role leading the 2000-member department starting today. The position was previously held by Fire Chief David Coatney who resigned from the department in November.
Dallas City Manager T.C. Broadnax says that he is confident in the decision: “Chief Artis’ vast experience with the department and his leadership will help DFR continue to provide the highest level of fire and emergency services to the residents of Dallas.”
Artis’ top priorities as the new DFR’s chief administrator is for the department to focus on ensuring the safety of all DFR personnel and continuing to deliver the best service to Dallas residents.
Artis adds: “I am truly honored and humbled by this opportunity to lead the fine men and women of Dallas Fire-Rescue. I want to thank the Mayor and City Council as well as City Manager Broadnax and the City’s senior leadership for this great opportunity…I am looking forward to leading this incredible team who is passionate about providing exceptional service to our great city.”
Artis says he is proud to follow in the footsteps of his two mentors, David Coatney and Louie Bright III, both of whom previously led this department.
“A Dallas native, Artis served as DFR’s Assistant Chief of Administration and Training prior to his appointment. Over his 23-year career with the department, he rose up through the DFR ranks and has served in various capacities including Lieutenant over Fire Control and Rescue, Captain of EMS Administration, and Deputy Chief of Operations.” – From City of Dallas Press Release.
