A Number of Texas Congressmen Are Forgoing Paychecks During Shutdown

D-FW (WBAP/KLIF) – While some members of Congress are still being paid during the partial government shutdown, many of them have asked to have their checks withheld or donated.

The Dallas Morning News reports 132 congressmen and women have done so — 110 of them representatives, 22 of them senators; and, of that group 11 of them are from Texas, including Fort Worth’s Kay Granger, Plano’s Van Taylor, and Austin’s Roger Williams, to name a few. 10 of those 11 are Republicans.

Our Scott Sidway asked a few North Texas residents what they thought on the issue:

“Why can’t they feel the exact same thing all of these people are feeling by not being able to pay their electricity.”

“They have to have a disincentive to get this solved.”

The annual salary for members of congress is $174,000.
