Clear Skies, Fine Viewing Opportunities for Tonight’s Super Blood Wolf Moon Eclipse

2017 Solar eclipse as seen from Madras, Oregon

FORT WORTH – WBAP/KLIF – It’s got quite a name with the moniker “Super Blood Wolf Moon”, but the end result is a total eclipse of the moon this evening that should be viewable from start to finish all through North and South America – geography AND good weather/clear skies for the most part in play.

Fort Worth based National Weather Service Meteorologist Patricia Sanchez notes it will be bone chilling, unusually cold this evening for Texan viewers, but the skies should stay mostly to completely clear for undeterred viewing.   Partial eclipse begins 10:34 EST tonight, with the peak time of the total eclipse beginning 10:41 and lasting a full hour.

The name of this eclipse comes from a few different sources.   The moon will be near it’s closest point to earth for the month, which some call a supermoon.  Since January’s full moon is also known as the Wolf Moon, some are calling the event The Eclipse of the Super Blood Wolf Moon.
