Minnie’s Food Pantry of Plano Opens Monday for Furloughed Government Workers

**Embargo: Davenport, IA-Rock Island-Moline, IL**
Shopping at the Davenport Community Food Pantry is much like shopping at the grocery store, people have the option to choose the food they want.

PLANO- WBAP/KLIF – Concerned about the increase in need for food in our community resulting from the government shutdown, Minnie’s Food Pantry of Plano is hosting a special Monday morning food giveaway for furloughed government employees.  The event runs from 8:30 am through 11:30 am and spokeswoman Cheryl Jackson asks federal workers bring their government identification or a zeroed out paycheck stub to indicate they are indeed affected by the government shutdown.

Jackson says children’s lunches and snacks are among the hardest hit so far in this fifth week of the shutdown; workers, she says, have been going out and buying more food to ensure there’s enough for the steady flow of government workers they expect.   Jackson says they will be giving away healthy food that includes meat and salads.  She says Minnie’s is not on the government dole itself, because they wanted to ensure they could help people who needed help and would have normally been excluded from help by related government rules.

Minnie’s is located at 3033 West Parker Road, Suite 116 in Plano, 75023.  Again, the event for government workers runs from 8:30 through 11:30 Monday morning, and Minnie’s is now seeking donations to help them help neighbors, with links available on their website.
