A TX State Senator Wants to Ban All Hands-Held Cellphone Use While Driving

Austin (WBAP/KLIF) – A Texas state senator has proposed a ‘hands-free’ cellphone law while driving; it would be in addition to the ban on texting while driving law which took effect on September 1, 2017.

Senator Judith Zaffrini (Tex/gov)

Sen. Judith Zaffirini of Laredo told the Fort Worth Star-telegram her proposal “will save lives.” She also believes that it’s the next next logical step toward reducing distracted driving in the state.

It would expand the texting ban to include all forms of hand-held cellphone use while driving. Offenders could be ticketed and fined.

Texas lawmakers have until May 27, to pass any new bills.

Sixteen states — as well as Puerto Rico, Guam, DC and THE U.S. Virgin Islands have hands-free laws
