Texas House Passes Bill to Rename U.S. 75 to Honor Fallen Richardson Officer

AUSTIN (WBAP/KLIF)- The Texas House passed a Bill to rename part of Highway 75 in Richardson to honor a fallen officer.

Part of U.S Highway 75 could be named the “Officer David Sherrard Memorial Highway” after approval from the Senate.

Sherrard was fatally shot last year, making him the first Richardson police officer killed in the line of duty in it’s 64-year history.

Representative Jeff Leach wrote the bill, he says no tax payer dollars will be used- just private donations to put up signage on the 7-mile stretch of highway.

“It is my hope that this memorial will bring a sense of joy to Officer Sherrard’s family and honor and pride to his fellow officers who continue to serve us faithfully and courageously each day,” Leach said.

Sherrard was a 13 year veteran with the Richardson Police Department and member of the SWAT unit.
