Medal of Honor Recipients Travel from DFW to Gainesville for Ceremony

GAINESVILLE (WBAP/KLIF)- Hundreds of people line the streets to show their respect for the Medal of Honor recipients during a motorcade from DFW Airport to Gainesville.

Eddie Shauf with the Gainesville Area Chamber of Commerce says motorcycles, emergency and law enforcement  vehicles will escort recipients of the Military’s highest and most prestigious award. “Right now the city is buzzing all the motels and restaurants are completely full,” Shauf said. “They just can’t wait for them to get there..they’re lined up on streets and bridges wearing red white and blue and waving flags…it’s very moving,” she said.

The Motorcade began on 114 in Grapevine went through Roanoke and North on I-35 W to Gainesville.

Tommy Moore, president of the medal of honor program, says there are 23 recipients this year. “They put themselves in harms way and risk their lives to protect those that they’re serving,” he said.

Moore said there’s events going on all weekend in Gainesville, including a parade and a tree dedication ceremony. He says they will continue to post updates on their Facebook page if inclement weather gets in the way of any events.
