Dallas (WBAP/KLIF) – Republican Senator John Cornyn has a Democratic challenger for his long held U.S. Senate seat in 2020.

Air Force veteran MJ Hegar of Round Rock re-introduced herself via social media this morning after a failed midterm House race last year.

In a video announcement she says, “I didn’t win that election, be we won something much bigger. We didn’t just close the gap in my district by almost 20 points, we helped close the status quo … new voices … new volunteers … new voters.”

She also says, “Texas deserves a senator who represents our values. Strength. Courage. Independence. Putting Texas First.”

As of April 16, Senator Cornyn, had amassed a $7.4 million war-chest, more than any of his fellow incumbent senators gearing 2020.

Meantime, U.S. Rep. Jaoquin Castro (D/TX)  has floated the idea of running against Cornyn. He currently also serves as the campaign chairman for his brother Julian Castro’s presidential campaign. He’s expected to make a decision soon.
