Dallas County Could Become Temporary Stop for Asylum Seekers

DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF) – Migrants seeking asylum in the United States could soon be held temporarily in North Texas.

According to Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins, several private organizations in Dallas County are being considered as temporary shelters for migrants as they travel to their ultimate destination. Jenkins said Thursday that the initiative is faith-based.

“The role of government will be to look at the facility and inspect them,” said Jenkins. “Making sure everything is safe, public health, and all that.”

No final decisions on a facility have been made.

“The asylum seekers would be at the shelter for anywhere between six and sixty hours,” said Jenkins. “Depending on where their destination is.”

Migrants could arrive to North Texas as early as June.
