Tensions Remain High for Employees, Residents Near Earle Cabell Federal Building in Dallas Following Shooting

DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF News) – A day after a gunman was shot and killed in a shootout with federal officers after he opened fire on the Earle Cabell Federal Building in downtown Dallas Monday morning, tensions are still high for employees who work in the building and nearby residents.

Cammy Bernstein lives next door to the Cabell building and said other than the shooting itself, the scariest thing for her was how hard it was to report the it to police.

“I was just listening to the new mayor talk about how we need to have it amped up. I don’t know if that’s going to work or not but I hope so because I try to call 911…as I am sure everyone was…but it took me almost ten minutes to get through,” she said.

Dallas Police Association President Mike Mata was in the area Tuesday morning and said the situation proves that the Dallas Police Department needs to be prepared.

“I hate to make a political statement out of this but it’s a fact. The City of Dallas is a top ten city. City leaders love to say it’s an iconic city…well, it needs to be protected. It has to be protected by a reasonable amount of police officers that are needed to do their job,” she said.

22-year-old Brian Isaack Clyde was killed in a shootout with federal officers shortly after the incident began.

Cathy Long with Federal Protective Services praised those officers that confronted Clyde.

“Everyday the men and women of the Federal Protective Service ensure the safety of employees and visitors. Their action today saved countless lives,” she said.

Meanwhile, investigators are sifting through evidence and scouring Clyde’s social media to find out why the shooting occurred. His social media posts show a fascination for weapons.

The FBI said Clyde, a former veteran, was carrying five-30 round magazines and a high-powered rifle.

No one was injured in the shooting.
