DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF News) — It has been a violent year in North Texas. Dallas alone has suffered 103 homicides in less than six months. Most of the victims leave behind families with no means to bury them.

Now, Mansfield Funeral Home is stepping up to offer free basic funeral services and a free casket for victims of violence.

Christie Moore, who owns the funeral home, told NBCDFW, “It is very difficult — sometimes it is hard for me to watch the news, but it is also an opportunity for me to minister to people to know that there are those out here that care for them.”

Moore added that relieving some of the financial burden weighing on the surviving families of violence victims helps their grieving process.

“It lightens that burden so that they don’t have to have sleepless nights figuring out how to pay for their loved one’s service,” Moore said.
