High-Ranking DPD Officer Under Criminal Investigation

Dallas (WBAP/KLIF) – A high-ranking Dallas Police officer is under criminal investigation.

Major Vince Weddington, who overseas the Crimes Against Person’s Division is accused of asking a detective to destroy documents that detailed criticism about how a high-profile murder case has been handled.

The case involves the fatal shooting of a Shniquia Simington a security guard outside King’s Cabaret in 2018. The detectives who initially handled the case had recommended that the suspect, identified as Daniel Taylor be referred to a Dallas County grand jury; however activists pushed for an immediate arrest and charges.

The initial detectives were “transferred out” according to WFAA-TV, and the case was assigned to Weddington. As normal protocol, when an officers is the subject of an investigation, he or she is re-assigned or placed on leave, but Weddington remains on the job.

Meantime, the victim’s mother Donnita Russell believes the case has been hampered by struggles within the department. She continues to seek justice for her daughter.
