American Airlines Mechanic Who Admittedly Sabotaged Nav System Fired From Previous Airline

FORT WORTH (WBAP/KLIF News) — The American Airlines mechanic who was charged last week with sabotaging a navigation system to earn overtime pay had been fired from his job at a previous airline.

Abdul-Majeed Marouf Ahmed Alani admitted to the sabotage amid the Fort Worth-based airlines’ labor dispute with its mechanics.

He has worked with American Airlines since 1988, but he also worked for Alaska Airlines for 10 years, where he was fired for making several maintenance mistakes. Some of those mistakes include installing the wrong battery in a plane and sending faulty parts to be used on a repair.

Business Insider reports Alani claimed the firing was racial discrimination and filed a lawsuit. The courts, however, ruled with the airline.
