Police Confirm 6-year-old Boy Shot by Brother is Dead

ARLINGTON (WBAP/KLIF)- Arlington police confirm the 6-year-old boy that was shot in the head by his 11-year-old special needs brother is dead.

Lieutenant Chris Cook says the 11-year-old got the gun from his 16-year-old brother who claims he purchased it off the street.

He said a 5-year-old sister was also grazed by the bullet.

“The 16-year-old brought the rifle home without his parent’s knowledge. The 11-year-old stumbled upon the gun and pulled the trigger,” he said.

This incident happened Sunday afternoon in south Arlington.

Cook said there has been no criminal charges filed at this time. “The state of mind that the 11-year-old was in an his functioning ability will be a critical part of this investigation but more importantly that gun should have never been in the home and accessible to that child,” Cook said.

He said police now have the 16-year-old’s phone to further the investigation and find out how the gun was bought.
