McKinney Approves Budget, Residents will Pay Less on Property Taxes

MCKINNEY (WBAP/KLIF)- The City of McKinney approved a $585 million dollar budget effective October 1st.

City Manager Paul Grimes said they lowered the city’s property tax rate meaning property owners would pay 51 cents for every 100 dollars of assessed property value.

“The 1-cent reduction brought the current property tax rate to 51 cents resulting in savings of about $2.2 million dollars for tax payers,” said Grimes.

The total budget also addresses staffing needs with more than 35 additional city staff members.

This includes nine added to the police department, six in the fire department, four in parks and recreation, and three in development services.

“As we grow we average about 6 to 8 thousand people a year moving to McKinney so we need the additional resources to protect and serve more people coming to live here,” Grimes said. “This budget combines the efforts and input from citizens, City Council, and city staff to plan for the future while maintaining a high level of service our businesses and residents expect,” he said.
