Fort Worth Zoo Hosts Fourth Annual “Heroes Weekend”, Free Entry for Veterans, Active Military and First Responders

FORT WORTH  (WBAP/KLIF News) – Veterans, active duty and reservist military and first responders are invited to check out the Fort Worth Zoo this weekend for free in honor of the upcoming Veterans Day.

The Zoo’s Avery Elander said it’s a way of giving back by allowing those who work in these  high-stress fields to enjoy a relaxing outing with their family and friends.

It’s also a nod to the sacrifice these men and women make.

“They’re dedicating their lives and putting their lives on the lines for us not only at a specific period of time in their lives but arguably every day. It’s just a way for us to say thank you,” said Elander.

Patrons will notice a specific theme running throughout the zoo this weekend.

“There will be all sorts of patriotic-themed animal enrichment  keeper chats talking place throughout the park hopefully a little chilly but wonderful weather,” said Elander.

Participants will need to show a military of first responder i.d. to get two free tickets to the fourth annual Heroes Weekend.

They will also be given $2 off the regular admissions price for up to four additional guests.

The event runs Friday through Sunday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
