Dallas County Deputy Accused of Assault During Jail Transport

DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF) – The Dallas County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an alleged assault by one of its deputies who was arrested and released on bond Thursday.

According to Sheriff Marion Brown, Deputy Austin Palmer is on paid leave after being charged with Official Oppression and Assault. The charges stem from a complaint from a suspect that Palmer tased him on the way to jail without a reason to. Sheriff Brown said Friday that an investigation confirmed the allegations and showed Palmer didn’t follow protocol.

“Once an individual is tased you are required to do a formal report,” said Sheriff Brown. “We did not have such a report.”

The Sheriff insisted the incident doesn’t reflect the values of her department.

“One bad apple in the barrel does not paint the whole picture for the whole barrel, if you will,” Sheriff Brown said.

According to an arrest warrant, Palmer and the suspect were discussing a previous incident they were both involved in. Palmer then put the taser to the suspect’s stomach for 15 to 20 seconds. The warrant said Palmer told him that if he said another word he would tase him on his throat, and threatened to  threatened to tase him on his genitals if he moved.
