Construction Underway for Commuter Train from Plano to DFW Airport, Connecting Three Counties

PLANO (WBAP/KLIF)- Construction is underway for a new 26-mile commuter train taking people to and from Plano to the DFW Airport.

Gordan Shattles with DART says the $1.2 billion project will be DART’s first East to West commuter train and it’ll connect Dallas, Tarrant and Collin counties. “It’s wonderful to have new businesses and people coming to the area but our roads can’t handle the large of influx of people coming in. We are seeing tremendous growth in the northern part of the Metroplex and that’s really the driving force of the Silver Line train,” said Shattles.  He said the train will run from Shiloh Road in Plano to the DFW Airport and will go through seven cities (Plano, Dallas, Carrollton, Coppell, Richardson, Addison and Grapevine).

“It’s going to connect all these cities and get people where they need to go,” said Shattles. “We have a long term goal that once you get to DFW Airport you can take a short walk to the TexRail that will take you to Downtown Fort Worth,” he said.

The train is scheduled to be completed by December 2022.

Dart is hosting a series of meetings this week and throughout the next month to get public input.
