Dallas (WBAP) - When Barack Obama rests his hand on a Bible and prepares to become the 44th President of the United States, two young North Texans will be watching first-hand.

"This is probably one of the most historic and important moments of my life," said Lakehill Preparatory School 8th-grader Spencer Abrams as he and classmate Brooks Vickery prepare to leave for Washington and the presidential inauguration later this month.

Brooks and Spencer, both 13, were nominated by teachers to attend a prestigious national conference in 2007.  As part of that program, the two were invited back to Washington for the Junior Presidential Youth Inaugural Conference.  "I got the invitation about five months ago," said Brooks, adding that she watched the electoral process closely leading up to Election Day in November.

Spencer Abrams is hoping for a chance to meet the next President, although "I don't think we've been told anything like 'You're definitely going to shake hands with the President,'" he said.  "But I think there's probably some chance that we will."

The anticipation leading up to the trip to Washington has Brooks Vickery considering a career in politics, "but I'm also into acting and stuff," she said.  "I just don't know how to combine the two."
