FAAN Walk for Food Allergy in Dallas (Fundraiser - Family fun)
to 12:30 PM
Location: Bob Woodruff Park in Plano

Come join us for the 3rd Annual FAAN Walk for Food Allergy in Dallas. The event includes a 2 mile walk followed by a family fun carnival which includes sponsor tables with samples and giveaways, door prizes, bounce houses, games, mascot visits and live music by the local band Group Therapy. This is a free event, but fundraising is encouraged. All children will receive a t-shirt and all adults raising $100 or more will receive a t-shirt. Please visit www.foodallergywalk.org to register.

Metro Dallas-Fort Worth high school students are challenged to design a car or write a short story to compete for Avanti Awards in Car Design and Aurora Awards in Creative Writing. Best designs and short fiction, as selected by the judging committee, will be published in the Stellar Scholars e-magazine: Cum Laude, The Scholarly Evening Post. Make Space for Artists: Design-A-Studio at the Dallas Museum of Art (Arts)

Dallas Museum of Art and its community partner La Reunion TX will launch Make Space for Artists: Design-A-Studio in the Tech Lab of the Museum’s newly opened Center for Creative Connections. Visitors will take part in a design contest that aims to transform the Tech Lab into an inspiring digital exhibition–community response project space. Entries will be submitted as drawings in either traditional or digital media. A digital presentation created by Dallas’s Corgan MediaLab will be projected in the space to feature the winning designs from La Reunion TX’s Make Space for Art.

Dallas Contemporary proudly presents the works of noted artist, teacher and administrator in Joseph Havel: Two Sheets (to the wind). The exhibition continues September 5 to December 24, 2008 and is open to the public Tuesday to Saturday, 10 to 5 pm.Havel uses common materials in his art ~ white dress shirts, curtains, tablecloths ~ to reach out to a broader audience. His interest in fabric began over fifteen years ago, he uese fabric as a medium to explore his interest in draping throughout history. Senior Citizens Fair Arts & Crafts Marketplace (Arts & Crafts Fair)

The Arts and Crafts Marketplace, a.k.a. the Senior Citizens Fair, brings the best of handcrafted treasures under one roof, offering one-stop shopping for patrons of all ages. Shoppers will find an outstanding selection of holiday decor, quilts, woodwork, pillows, stained glass, jewelry, birdhouses, infant/children’s items, needlecraft, artwork, ceramics, plants, baked goods, and more, all crafted by seniors ages 55 and above. Crafters receive 95 percent of the sales (the remainder underwrites the costs of the fair), but are not expected to work at the fair. More than 700 volunteers donate time behind the scenes and onsite to make the event possible. Admission to the shopper-friendly event is $5. Parking is free; Visa and MasterCard are accepted. The marketplace is a community service project of Altrusa International Inc. of Fort Worth, Texas. Associate sponsors are the Tarrant County Medical Alliance; the Fort Worth Founders Lions Club; and the Fort Worth Newcomers Club.

Kids and their families can surround themselves with snakes, lizards and other cool critters -- and enjoy the experience -- at the Museum of Nature & Science’s annual Reptile Fest in Fair Park. They will learn how reptiles listen without ears, how lizards climb walls and other fascinating herpetological facts. The event also teaches which reptiles make good pets, which snakes are harmless if they see them in the wild, and which ones to avoid.In addition to lots of live snakes, lizards, turtles and other creatures, there will be tons of crafts and hands-on demonstrations suitable for all ages. Kids can collect free reptile trading cards.
