ARLINGTON (WBAP 24/7 News) - Five million pounds of presses and other equipment should arrive at the general Motors plant in Arlington on Friday, hauled by trucks that are more than 100 feet long.
The four presses, pit equipment and two press beds will travel 550 miles from the Port of Houston to be installed at a new $200 million stamping facility at the assembly plant in Arlington.
Because of their size, the presses are being transported during daylight hours along roads that can handle the extreme weight of the equipment.
The circuitous route they're taking is double the normal distance between Houston and the Dallas area on Interstate 45.
Work on the stamping plant began less than one year ago.
