DALLAS (AP) - A portion of a highway running through Dallas could be named after former President George W. Bush.
State Rep. Dan Branch of Dallas has filed a bill to designate the stretch of U.S. 75 between Interstate 30 and Park Lane as the George W. Bush Expressway.
That section of the road runs alongside the George W. Bush Presidential Center on the campus of Southern Methodist University. The center opens to the public May 1. If the bill becomes law the new designation would take effect Sept. 1.
Sections of two campus streets will have the combined name of Bush Avenue.
The Dallas area already has two highways named after presidents: the Lyndon B. Johnson Freeway and the President George Bush Turnpike, honoring Bush's father - George H. W. Bush.
