PLANO (WBAP 24/7 News) - Longtime State Senator Florence Shapiro spent over a dozen years inside City Council chambers in Plano.
Now, those chambers are named in her honor. The City Council also dedicated a portrait to Shapiro Monday night.
"We want elected officials who come in this room to know," said current Mayor Phil Dyer. "That Florence Shapiro is the gold standard for service to the community."
She was a City Council member for 11 years and then mayor of Plano from 1990-1992. Shapiro retired last year after nearly 19 years in the state legislature.
