DALLAS (WBAP 24/7 News) -- A traffic stop Tuesday afternoon has led to the arrest of the man suspected in three recent sexual assaults in Lake Highlands.
Dallas police say they had been tracking 30-year-old Cesar Benitez for several days after they received a tip through Crime Stoppers. Authorities say Benitez got out of his car and ran away on foot, but was tracked down. Police say when they took him in for questioning, he told them he was involved in all three assaults in Lake Highlands.
Benitez has been charged in connection with two of the assaults.
"This suspect terrorized this neighborhood. This neighborhood has lived in fear," said police chief David Brown.
"I know a lot about the Lake Highlands community. It's a very strong, tight-knit community. We hope they have some sense of relief," Brown said in a press conference late Tuesday night.
The assaults took place in late February and March in the same Lake Highlands neighborhood.
Police say they matched a palm print left at one of the homes. Investigators are still testing forensics from the third assault. They say Benitez voluntarily submitted a DNA sample.
The bond for Benitez has been set at $4.5 million dollars.
