DUNCANVILLE (WBAP 24/7 News) - A former NFL, Texas A&M University and Carter High School football player has been arrested in connection with the armed robbery of a Duncanville 7-Eleven store that left an employee injured, police say.
44-year-old Darren Glen Lewis was in the DeSoto City Jail, Duncanville police spokesman Doug Sisk said. Authorites plan to charge him with aggravated robbery.
The robbery occurred about 2 a.m. Tuesday at the 7-Eleven at U.S. Highway 67 and Cockrell Hill Road, police said. A gunman demanded money from an employee, who was shot in the thigh after refusing to hand over the cash.
The employee was taken to Methodist Charlton Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.
Lewis ran for 5,264 yards as a running back at Texas A&M from 1987 to 1990, and he was an All-America selection in 1990. He was drafted by the Chicago Bears and played just two seasons.
