GRAND PRAIRIE (WBAP 24/7 News) - Two girls, ages 12 and 13, died Sunday afternoon in Grand Prairie after the stalled-out car they were riding in, was rear-ended by a pickup truck.
Police say the driver of the Dodge Stratus had mechanical issues. The Ford F-150 truck was reportedly changing lanes, and didn't see the car until it was too late.
"The driver of the truck told us he was in the center lane and was moving to the left lane," Grand Prairie Police Sgt. Eric Hansen told WFAA-TV. "When he went from the center lane to the left lane, the car was right there in front of him and he didn't have any time to react."
The 12-year-old girl died shortly after the accident; the 13-year-old died late Sunday night. Two others, ages 6 and 10, remain in critical condition at Cook Children's Hospital in Fort Worth.
All three adults involved in the crash escaped serious injury.
