I regularly scan Hollywood gossip websites for the latest in smut news: you know, who got knocked-up and by whom, a celeb's latest moronic tattoo and to see if Justin Bieber is finally beginning to look masculine. Lately, I've been reading repeated stories about Rihanna (a really terrible pop singer) getting back with fellow-pop star and admitted batterer of the aforementioned, Chris Brown.
HELLO!!!! What is wrong with this girl who calls herself "RiRi?" (Which, by the way, is a slang for a person with mental disabilities.)
Everyone's seen the pictures of the violent altercation between the two back in Feb. 2009, in which Brown reportedly showed-off his man-beater skills and beat RiRi to a pulp. Both publicly responded - with Brown even publicly apologizing for what happened.
These two idiotic singers are back together - posting (via Instagram and Twitter) - photos of them together. One of the latest ones is of them in bed together.
I'm enraged that this isn't getting more publicity.
Why are women activists not shouting from the mountain tops about what an affront this is to our gender? This idiotic and talentless pop star has thousands, if not millions of followers - many of whom are young women and even men. And to think that she is sending a dangerous message to all of them that it's a.) okay to beat-up women and b.) okay to forgive domestic batterers and take them back. That is terrifying and extremely irresponsible.
Why isn't Gloria Allred, domestic violence support advocates and women in general not just publicly bashing RiRi?
She's in the public eye with adoring fans. What she does - even in her personal life - matters.
Through songs, albums and, of course, social media, both mentally unstable pop stars have bascially told the public to shut-up and accept that they're back together. I propose that we stop buying their albums and going to their concerts as a strong way to condemn they're idiotic and dangerous behavior.
