WASHINGTON (AP) – Do you believe in magic? Texas Congressman Pete Sessions does.
The lawmaker from Dallas hopes the House will pass his resolution, introduced this week, recognizing magic as a “rare and valuable art form.”
One of Sessions’ constituents, Wylie Mayor Eric Hogue, declared National Magic Week in his town. Hogue has worked to achieve “art status” for magic and has touted its therapeutic benefits.
If passed, the House resolution would not only recognize magic as a natural treasure – it would reinforce that the House supports “efforts to make certain that magic is preserved, understood and promulgated.”
The resolution says “magic is a unifying force across cultural, religious, ethnic and age differences in our diverse nation,” and adds that “magic is timeless in appeal and requires only the capacity to dream.”
