MCKINNEY (WBAP/KLIF News) – The City of McKinney has increased restrictions put in place by Collin County this week and issued a shelter-in-place order for residents and the closure of non-essential businesses.
The order took effect around midnight Thursday and will remain in effect through 11:59 p.m. April 2.
Residents are allowed to go outside for essential errands like grocery shopping, healthcare and working out outside as long as they’re practicing social distancing guidelines.
The order also allows residents whose jobs are considered essential to go to work as normal.

McKinney, which is part of Collin County, broke rank with what county officials had announced as its guidelines.
Collin County Judge Chris Hill had announced this week that businesses can operate if they can meet state guidelines of social distancing and no gatherings of more than 10 people, residents are allowed outside as long as they are not showing COVID-19 symptoms.
The City McKinney’s guidelines are more in line with Dallas, Tarrant and Denton Counties.
There are 14 confirmed case of coronavirus in McKinney and at least 66 confirmed cases across Collin County.
