Texas Education Agency Announces Guidelines

(WBAP/KLIF) — The Texas Education Agency announced guidelines, Tuesday, for the start of the coming school year. The TEA made health and safety a top priority when school does resume.  The state is allowing both on-campus and at-home virtual learning this fall…a decision left up to parents.

Richardson ISD superintendent Dr. Jeanie Stone says the TEA is trying to do what’s in the best interest of students.  Stone says the rising cases of COVID-19 are creating uneasiness with in-school instruction.

The TEA is also providing reimbursement for extra Coronavirus-related expenses, PPE supplies, and a focused effort to bridge the digital divide for students learning at home.

When Texas schools re-open, students can expect to be screened before attending. The health screening will be needed in order to gain admittance into campus buildings.  Parents can also choose either in-school or at-home learning during the coming year.

The Texas Education Agency and the governor’s office are committed to fully funding in-class and remote instruction this fall.  Stone says parents in her district were heavily in favor of on-campus instruction, 65% to 35% in favor of virtual classes.

Parents can change the type of instruction their child participates in during the year.  However, those who choose virtual instruction may have to wait until the end of the grading period to do so.
