Jury selection will begin Tuesday in the trial for nine people arrested in connection with a July ambush attack on a North Texas ICE detention facility. The trial is being held at the Mahon Federal Courthouse in Fort Worth. Nine people are facing dozens of charges related to the attack, including attempted murder of federal officers and employees, rioting, and providing material support to terrorists. All nine defendants will appear in court for the hearing.
Officers responded the night of July 4, 2025 to the Prairieland Detention Center in Alvarado to reports of people shooting off fireworks toward the center when some of the suspects began shooting at the officers. An Alvarado police officer was shot in the neck during the attack. He was taken to a local hospital where he was treated and later released. Acting U.S. Attorney Nancy Larson called it “a planned ambush with an attempt to kill ICE correction officers.” Federal prosecutors have labeled the actions of the group an act of “domestic terrorism.”
Five suspects have already pleaded guilty to a charge of providing material support to terrorists in connection to the attack. They all face up to 15 years in federal prison.
