ERCOT Breaks Record for Hourly Peak Demand Twice in One Week

AUSTIN (WBAP/KLIF) – For the second time this week, The Electric Reliability Council of Texas has broken records for hourly peak demand throughout the state.

ERCOT’s Robbie Searcy says it is a combination of population growth and the triple digit heat.

“Obviously our urban centers are the highest demand areas and typically Dallas Fort Worth area does tend to lead the way,” Searcy said.

Monday ERCOT surpassed 70,000 megawatts for the first time. Wendesday afternoon ERCOT surpassed 70,500.

ERCOT has not yet had to call for consumers to lower demand.
