The Dispute Between Senator Royce West and Dallas Cowboys’ Dez Bryant Heats Up

Dez Bryant WFAADALLAS (WBAP/KLIF) – The dispute between Senator Royce West and Dallas Cowboy Wide Receiver Dez Bryant is getting uglier. West sued Bryant in June for $60 thousand in damages to his Desoto rental property. Bryant counter sued in July, claiming West made money off of his celebrity.

West asked the Dallas County District Attorney this week to levy a $500 thousand sanction against Bryant. West’s attorney Trey Crawford said the move is in response to Bryant’s counter suit. “The motion for sanctions is really what the law would expect when somebody files a baseless pleading that is filed for purposes of harassment and has no objectively verifiable facts to it,” said Crawford.

He said West’s original lawsuit is about accountability. “We provided detailed receipts backing up literally every penny of the damage and tried to privately get Mr. Bryant to resolve this. It didn’t work,” said Crawford.

West said he wants the money from the sanction to go to the United Negro College Fund.
