Transgender Wrestler Competes, UIL Sued by Opponent’s Parent

DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF News) — A lawsuit has been filed against the University Interscholastic League because of its decision to allow a 17-year-old transgender boy to compete in the girl’s division.

Mack Beggs is a 17-year-old girl transitioning to become a boy who is also taking prescribed steroids to assist in the transition. While the drugs are banned through UIL rules, the organization does allow them if they prescribed by a doctor “for a valid medical purpose.”

The parent in the lawsuit against the UIL say allowing Beggs to compete against the girls while taking steroids invites “imminent threat of bodily harm.”

“Just because she’s [changing] from female to male doesn’t give her the right to compete against other kids who aren’t taking those drugs,” said one man whose daughter competed against Beggs.

Beggs won the regional title for Euless Trinity High School because her Coppell opponent to forfeit.

“I do not think she should have been allowed to wrestle at all,” the father said, “Either as a male or female if she’s taking these drugs.”
