Victim-plaintiffs of West explosion injuries reach settlements

Legal claims have been settled for 11 children and their families who were injured in the 2013 fertilizer plant explosion in West, TX.

A judge in McLennan County approved partial settlements Friday for defendants including El Dorado Chemical Co. and International Chemical Co. Two other defendants, CF Industries and Adair Grain Co. still have cases pending and were not part of the initial settlement.

WacoTrib.com reports the settlements are confidential as they involve minor children.

A trial is scheduled for April 3 for claims filed by a dozen more individual plaintiffs and the West Rest Haven nursing home, which was destroyed in the blast.

Also involved in the litigation are insurance companies hoping to recoup benefits paid out.

The explosion at the plant killed 15 people, mostly first responders, injured hundreds and destroyed a large section of West.
